HYLIGHTS

HYLA launched its “Hylights” podcast in September 2020. It was inspired by the success of HYLA's The Stories of First Generation Attorneys podcast and the challenges posed by COVID-19. In addition to providing an additional avenue to connect, the goal of the podcast is to enable members of the Houston legal community to follow and further HYLA's mission—learn, lead, network, and serve. Hylights seeks to introduce voices of those in the community who excel in these areas, that may not have yet been heard by the listener. Hylights is a platform to discuss a wide range of topics, from general tips and experiences in practice, to thoughts on current events and developments in the profession.
The podcast was started and is hosted by 2020-2021 HYLA Directors Patrick Aana and Femi Aborisade. Emblematic of the podcast’s aim to cover issues from the headlines and address listener questions, it began with a series of episodes addressing the challenges faced by that year’s bar exam takers. Episodes today include interviews with a wide spectrum of legal professionals—young and seasoned—from private litigation and transactional attorneys, to government and nonprofit attorneys, as well as members of the judiciary. These interviews discuss the guest’s experiences and stories and touch on topics related to the Houston legal community.
